In 2014 the Government of Japan initiated a support project for making a safety policy in Asean to solve current situation. This was deliberated at the 15th ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM)-METI Economic and Industrial Cooperation Committee (AMEICC) meeting. JARI was consigned the task with the cooperation of JAMA and METI.

After numerous fact finding and investigation visits to the various Government departments of Malaysia, a ROAD SAFETY WORKSHOP was conceived and executed.

The two-day event Road Safety Workshop was held at the Palm Garden Hotel, situated at the IOI Resort in Putrajaya on 2nd and 3rd of March 2015.

It was declared open by Y.Bhg Datuk Ismail Bin Haji Bakar the Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport and was graced by a senior official from the Embassy of Japan in Kuala Lumpur.

The Road Safety Department of Malaysia(JKJR) and Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) played host. Numerous other Government agencies including a strong contingent from JAMA and JARI were in attendance with observers from MASAAM and MAA also present.

Views from both parties were exchanged and presentations highlighting best practices in road safety were made by JARI and JAMA. JKJR gave an insight into the Malaysia Road Safety Plan 2014 to 2020 giving focus to the five major pillars.

The concluding session was based on the requests and proposals made by the various Government ministries, some of which included sight visits and educational tour to emulate and better understand the best road safety practices in Japan.
